The Elusive Madam President
a mini quilt with applique and embroidery, 7" x 5", Jan 11,2025
For this week's challenge, the theme of Mythical Creatures begs for dragons and unicorns. However as we approach the inauguration of our 47th president, after an election cycle where it appeared we were finally to have a female president, I have to accept that too many US citizens aren't prepared to elect a woman, regardless of how qualified she is and how Unqualified the opponent is.
I used this painting by Bria Goeller as inspiration for Kamala Harris:
I was ready to welcome a 'Madam President'; to see her inaugurated; to have a 'First Gentleman' in the White House; to witness a final repudiation of the darkness and ugliness that surrounds the the person who ultimately won the election. But she is, at this time, a mythical creature.
We'll have to carry on.
Peace
Paula
I both love your quilt and am saddened by it. It shouldn't have to be a mythical creature!
ReplyDeleteoh I agree. But all of the 'reasons' people are claiming for why they didn't vote for her don't really hold water. I thinks it's long standing US misogyny
DeleteQuite a different take on the theme, Paula. The resulting quilt turned out great!
ReplyDeletethank you
DeleteThank you for making this statement!
ReplyDeleteyes, we are entering an era of chaos again.
DeleteI always love how you respond to these weekly challenges to create thought-provoking fiber art. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mel. i just can't help myself. ;-)
DeleteI absolutely love this piece and couldn't agree with you more on your reasoning! I do hold hope that the US will see a woman in the oval office as leader of our nation during my lifetime...providing I hold on another 20 years.
